What is Writesonic, Exactly?

Writesonic is an AI tool you can use to turn simple prompts into amazing content. 

It bills itself as the best AI platform for people who want to transform their digital presence. 

In other words, it’s NOT just a text-based tool. 

You can use it to generate images, voice your text, optimize for SEO, and create custom chatbots. 

(Which does make the software somewhat unique in the marketing landscape.)

I mean, there are a thousand and one AI tools dedicated to image creation. And a bunch of tools for marketing automation. And a hundred more for SEO. 

But very few ALL-IN-ONE platforms like this. 

I’ll talk about Writesonic’s SEO offerings and writing features in the coming section.

But the gist is that Writesonic is aimed at helping people write text faster and with better quality.

With that, let’s dive in. 

Writesonic: Things I Like 

🏳 Incredibly Easy to Use 

Writesonic does not have a vast catalog of learning materials online. You have to sign up and dig in for yourself. But SURPRISINGLY, the platform is incredibly easy to use. Almost everything on its dashboard is self-explanatory, except maybe Botsonic, now a separate tool.

🏳 Budget-friendly

Apart from the amazing free plan Writesonic offers, it’s safe to say Writesonic is among the cheapest AI writing tools on the internet. You can access an improved version of GPT 4 for less than $20. It’s more affordable than Jasper or Rytr.

🏳 Generates related keywords 

Writesonic offers no fancy keyword editor or on-page optimization tool. But you can use it to generate a bunch of related keywords. Plus, you don’t need to manually insert keywords into each content; you can instruct the tool to do it for you.

🏳 Powerful research tool 

You can literally use Writesonic’s Chatsonic feature to summarize PDFs, essays, and anything in between. You can talk with  Chatsonic. Create briefs with it. Analyse contrarian views and get your research process going without much ado. 

🏳 Perfect for “How to Guides” and “What IS” Blogs 

If you’re writing a “How-to guide” about information widely available on the internet, e.g., how to become an Instagram Influencer, or a “What is” blog, e.g., What is the Metaverse? Then Writesonic is the way to go. 

But for complex blogs like software reviews and thought leadership articles that require personal opinions, the AI writer wouldn’t do much good. 

Writesonic: Things I Don’t Like 

🚩 Brand Voice Feature is Overrated 

Writesonic offers a brand voice feature with the premise that it can help optimize your write-ups to sound like you. I’ve used the brand voice feature a couple of times and can’t say that’s entirely true. The output is quite generic. You still need a copywriter to optimize for tone of voice. 

🚩 No Upfront Paragraph Editor 

The AI Writer 5.0 is Writesonic’s most-priced long-form content tool. I love the output. But I can’t say the same for its editing features. Unlike Copy.ai, which allows users to create multiple versions of each generated paragraph upfront, such a process is more of an afterthought on Writesonic. 

🚩 Limited Online Tutorials 

In truth, I didn’t need any special skills to get the hang of the many features Writesonic offers. And I’m not tech-savvy. But it didn’t help to know that if I got stuck using the app, I’d have to contact support. Writesonic doesn’t have an active learning forum, and its online tutorials are limited. 

🚩 Not ideal for thought leadership content 

Writesonic, at its best, can only talk about well-defined, already existing ideas. It can only give answers relative to the data it has. And to avoid bias, it’s not built to proffer opinions. So, NO; you can’t write thought leadership content or opinion-based blogs with the tool. 

Top Writesonic Features for SaaS Content Writers  

AI Writer 5.0

This is Writesonic’s bread-and-butter feature for writers.

It’s basically the best long-form article writer on the internet.

With this feature, you can:

• Conduct an in-app Google search on a chosen topic or keyword 
• Extract information from top-ranking articles 
• Upload any PDFs or docs as reference materials 
• Set tone of voice 
• Insert keywords
• Generate a 2500-word article

And a whole lot more.

I’ve personally used the AI article writer 5.0 feature (on the superior plan) to write a bunch of articles. 

So, it’s only fair to say I know how reasoned the output can be. 

Writesonic’s AI writer 5.0 is pretty solid for creating how-to guides with instructions written in stones. 

For example, I told the AI tool to create a guide on what SaaS means and why the sales model is important.

Within seconds, it generated this output.

Well, this is not the most enchanting or neatly laid out article on the web. 

But it’s nothing a few conversion-based writing tweaks can’t handle. 🙂

Then I dived into reviews. 

I asked for a 1000-word review of Writesonic, including an outline and a brand voice.

Here’s what I got: 

At first blush, the outcome seemed a tad bit impressive. 

For one, the subheadings were neatly defined, and most of the information shown was accurate. 

But I didn’t like it because it was nowhere near the tone of voice I described.

In fact, it completely ignored the specified tone of voice and simply adopted the same tone as the referenced article. 

What about new ideas? 

There was nothing new; obvious, factual ideas were all I got. 

Overall, the AI writer 5.0, which, so far, is writesonic’s best long-form article writer, simply reviews and rewrites ranking articles. 

It basically regurgitates ideas in a boring old fashion. It’s certainly not the best AI tool for writing opinion-based software reviews.

However, it can help get your creative juices flowing when writing a factual review.  

Chatsonic

If you’d like to use Writesonic for research, you’ll probably use “Chatsonic” more often than not. 

That’s because it serves as a conversation partner—your own personal AI assistant. 

You see, having a writing tool with an AI assistant is nothing new. 

Many other software boast of the same. 

Not to forget that ChatGPT pioneered this OpenAI tech, and GPT-3 is still available to millions of users at zero cost. 

So what’s so SPECIAL about Chatsonic?

Well, Writesonic is built for a duly defined target market: writers, eCommerce managers, marketing teams, and entrepreneurs. 

And this audience shares one trait in common: “They all need specific, STRAIGHT-TO-THE-POINT research data. 

Thankfully, unlike most other open AI tools, Chatsonic doesn’t play around. 

It’s creative but not in a playful, flowery sense. 

For example, I gave Chatsonic and ChatGPT the same prompt: using idioms, explain why Writesonic is a good tool for writers.

Here’s what Chatsonic came up with:

The major difference was that Chatsonic provided simple, actionable answers that I could use right off the bat; ChatGPT made up flowery stuff that was exciting to read but not as helpful. 

And unlike ChatGPT, which is somehow stuck in 2021 (except maybe with a plugin), Chatsonic grants access to real-time, up-to-date information. 

To be fair, I don’t know what would have happened if I had kept on prompting. But at first glance, Chatsonic proved to be more solid. 🙂

In my opinion, Chatsonic can help SaaS content writers SAVE TIME and automate generic processes. 

At least you won’t have to read through every article on the first page of Google for common sense ideas. 

Analogy Maker

You need good analogies—comparisons that make ideas sticky—if you want to talk about software in a relatable manner.

In very precise ways, Writesonic can help create thumb-stopping analogies within seconds. 

Simply insert a proverb, quote, or any insightful idea into the tool, and it will create something interesting. 

For example, I wanted to explain how AI is a tool, not a threat, and here’s how the analogy maker performed. 

The descriptions were not pitch-perfect, but they were GOOD starting points. 

Overall, I found Writesonic’s analogy maker to be really useful for SaaS content writers as well as folks from diverse backgrounds. 

Now, to the final Writesonic feature I found useful for SaaS content writers: SEO tools. 

SEO Keyword Generator & Extractor

Writesonic’s SEO capabilities are similar, or, to an extent, a bit more basic than free keyword research tools like Answer the Public. 

No fancy Content editor or any other micro features. 

Insert a keyword in the SEO keyword generator, and you’ll find a page similar to this: 

There’s also a keyword extractor for finding keywords in ALREADY ranking articles.

Again, no fancy features here. Just plain, old keyword detectors. 

Writesonic is not an SEO tool, so it’s okay for its optimization capabilities to be this basic. 

At least, it’s good to know that the algorithm understands SEO. 

Plus, it offers added features for creating simple meta tags, summaries, and excerpts, which is SUPER helpful when you need to wrap up a software review draft real quick. 

Writesonic Pricing 

Writesonic has four pricing plans: free trial, unlimited, business, and enterprise. 

Here’s how the plans compare. 

• Free Plan

If you’re new to the world of AI writing and automation, Writesonic’s free plan is an easy way to learn the ropes. 

You get over 100 AI templates, exclusive access to Chatsonic on GPT3.5, a browser extension to save time and 25+ languages. 

Bear in mind: You can only write 10,000 words monthly. 

• Freelancer Plan

The Freelancer plan is tagged as a fine package for individuals and freelancers because it grants access to unlimited writing. 

That aside, I couldn’t find any other useful feature here. 

And annoyingly, the freelancer plan limits users to data from the GPT3.5 model for $16. 

In my opinion, I think the freelancer plan is overrated. 

• Small Team Plan 

Now, here’s a plan I strongly believe is worth paying for. 

At least, as a SaaS content writer, I can assure you that you’ll get good value for your money here.

Apart from customary additions like bulk processing, API access, and priority support, you also get access to content from GPT4.0.

Although this is not an unlimited plan. The pricing starts at $15, but it can change depending on the number of users. 

Also, note that subscribers don’t gain exclusive access to data from the GPT4.0 model. 

For instance, single users on the small team plan can switch between 100,000 premium words (GPT3.5) and 16,667 superior words (GPT4.0).

That’s to say, 600 premium words equals 100 superior words. 

• Enterprise Plan 

As you already know, Writesonic serves folks in diverse industries with different needs. Not just writers. 

So yeah, there’s an enterprise plan guaranteeing unlimited access to all the features large enterprises and Fortune 500 companies might need. 

Pricing starts at $500. You can contact sales for a more robust package.  

Overall, 

I think Writesonic offers budget-friendly plans compared to a truckload of competitors out there. 

Not to forget the fact that there’s also an ENTIRELY free plan.

For SaaS writers, I recommend the small team plan. It comes with all the bells and whistles you need to automate bulk tasks and get more done quickly. 

Is Writesonic the Best AI Writing Tool for SaaS Content Writers?

Well, that depends on the type of content you’re creating. 

If you’re creating regular, non-thought-provoking content like “What is AI” or “How to use AI” (writeups that require similar answers), then Writesonic can save you a lot of time. 

But keep in mind that, even for such content type, if you have relatively similar prompts that lack specificity, you will get vague outputs. 

For example, input “what is AI” in the 5.0 writer, and you will get such output. 

If you take it a step further and become more specific by changing the prompt to “What is AI in copywriting?” you’ll get a less generic output.

A few more ultra-specific prompts and your output continues to get better. 

So yeah, ULTRA-SPECIFICITY is still key here.🙂 

On the downside: 

if you’re creating opinion-based content, maybe a software review or thought leadership content (blogs that require abstract reasoning), investing in Writesonic might not be the way to go.  

The issue is this: Writesonic (or AI as we know it) generally regurgitates ideas and seems to lack creativity.

It can only rewrite what’s in its database; it can’t generate new ones.

The time required to correlate abstract ideas and generate something worthwhile when creating opinion-based articles is, at the moment, better spent writing the content yourself. 

Final Verdict 

I’ve been a paying Writesonic user since 2021, and here’s my final verdict about the tool’s SaaS content writing capabilities.

For the most part, Writesonic is an excellent AI writing tool for SEASONED content writers who understand the dos and don’ts of SaaS sales.

It can help you reduce research time, develop thumb-stopping ideas quickly, and handle the generic aspects of the writing process.

However, for NEWBIE SaaS content writers with no real insights into conversion-based content, Writesonic can dull the learning process and dampen creativity. 

Overall, I give Writesonic a 4.3-star rating.
